I *heart* Barbie.

I don’t know what it is about Barbie, but I don’t think there is a girl, young or old, at some point in their lives, who hasn’t adored her.

Envelope her in fluffy buttercream and delicious cake and the adoration shoots right off the charts. Am I right?

Every little girl needs a Barbie Cake for her birthday. My niece was no exception.

Ahhhh, finally. I bet you thought I had abandoned you, didn’t you? Nope. Just been busy. Oh sure, next I’m going to say “It’s not you, it’s me”, right? Never.

So here’s my latest. A sweet little angel cake topper made of fondant.

To go on top of her very own cloud cake.

And, of course, heavenly cupcakes to match.

You guys, I am awful. I’ve been neglecting CherryChip. There has been cake making and decorating going on, yet no posting. It’s low. I know. And I’m sorry. Does this cheer you up?

Shawn's Harley Cake
This is a cake I did for a friend’s boyfriend. It was for his birthday. Notice the awesome illustration on the gift bag. She did that. Love it.

This is said boyfriend. Look at the sweet set up he got. Good job, Michelle!

Forgiven? Not quite. Let’s see. What else can I show you. I know! How about a 60th birthday cake I did?

There it is…. I see you smiling. Is it because I’m back in your good graces or are you smiling because you’re thinking about all the delicious food you will be eating in roughly twenty-four hours? I won’t be offended if it’s the latter. Happy Thanksgiving!

Go bold or go home.

People always ask me how I do it. How I work full time, help run a photo business, bake for clients, be a round the clock mom and wife… I never really have an answer most of the time, other than “I dunno. I just do it.” Well, that and Google Calendar!

I recently shared with Renee of Studio Bold the method behind the madness that is CherryChip. Check it out here.

P.S. Need a logo? How about invites or a web page? Give Renee a buzz. As evidenced by her work, she’s a very talented designer!

Wow. Just Wow.

Just look at this. Look how beautiful these turned out. I did some cupcakes for a friend’s grandmother’s 90th birthday. Three flavors: Raspberry filled, chocolate hazelnut and lemon meringue.

Amy's Cupcakes

Soooo… funny story… well, I can laugh about it now, but when it happened, you guys, I wanted to die. A few of these got blown away during delivery. As in, blown away by the wind. It was super windy the day I delivered. Now add unsecured lids and an unwise move on my part and you have flying cupcakes. Six of them. I tried to catch them as they sailed through the air, but I couldn’t put the other fifty-four of them at risk and had to abort the rescue mission pretty much the second it started.

I just want you to know that I almost cried. How do you tell a friend and paying customer you made a huge mistake by NOT WAITING INSIDE WHILE SHE PULLED THE CAR AROUND, and as a result, six of her cupcakes were now residing in the landscaping?

Luckily she was very understanding. And luckily I had extras. In the end, everything turned out. And I’m so glad. Because someone who is turning 90 definitely deserves every last cupcake they’ve got coming.

Thanks, Amy, for send me a pic. And extra thanks for being so gracious about my rookie mistake ;)

Princess Cookies.

Monday, October 4th, 2010

I got an order for 65 princess themed cookies for a wedding shower back in… oh… May? June? Somewhere around there. They were to be pink, white, shimmery and super girly. I consider myself only moderately girly, but cookies that sparkle? Um, yes please. Can you tell I was excited to do them?

Here they are all baked and ready to go. Did I tell you there were sixty five of them? That’s over five dozen. My poor little oven.

Baked And Ready To Go

This is the strawberry smoothie I had before I started decorating the cookies. It was imperative. I needed to keep up my strength.

I’m kind of sad they’re gone. At the same time, though, I’m ecstatic they are out of my house… and far, far away from my sweet tooth!

EEP! EEP!

I made these guys last week. They took some time to assemble, but overall were pretty easy to make.

Monkey Cupcakes

Fondant covered marble cupcakes. Mini chocolate chips for the eyes and nose. Mint chocolate candy melts for the ears. Candy dots for the dimples. And edible marker to draw on the grins.

Monkey Cupcakes

I can’t barely wait to find out how they went over!

What the puck?!

This is a hockey themed cake I did for a friend’s nephew.

Complete with busted out toofs and everything.

I’ve got more stuff that I’m really excited about in the hopper, too. Stay tuned…

And the winner is…

First, thanks to everyone who commented. I *heart* you.

Second, there were a lot of great ideas and I had a really hard time choosing just one. Because, uh, the Pink Squirrel Martini? Sounds DAH-licious. And a White Romanian? I’d hate to be in a room with one of those. No wait, I’d love it actually. Especially if it had a shot or two of chocolate.

Because, mmmmm. Chocolate. How is it that one thing could be so universally loved? Simultaneously sought after. So utterly enjoyable. I’m not sure. Maybe I should ponder that over some chocolate.

So, without further adieu, the winner is… the Mudslide. Kelly F, you’re the winner!

I can just see it now —> A chocolate Kahlua cupcake topped with whipped Bailey’s Irish Cream frosting with chocolate drizzled on top.

These cupcakes are going to rock.

Happy Birthday, Beth!

Okay, guys, before you read this I want you to go and leave a comment on my last post if you already haven’t, K? Come on, it’ll be fun. And you could win a set of sweet hurricane glasses. Just think… you and three of your pals sipping on frosty strawberry daiquiries… Hurry! Go leave a comment now. I’m picking a winner Friday, August 6th!

So, last week a friend of mine whom I’ve known and worked with for years asked me to make some cupcakes for his special gal. They were going to celebrate her birthday up in Traverse City, home of the cherry festival. Naturally there had to be a cherry in the design somewhere, right? So we talked over some of his ideas and settled on some cute sundae cupcakes complete with a cherry on top.

Sundae Cakes

I made the fondant cherries a few days before and let them set.

Sundae Cupcakes

I covered cherry chip flavored cupcakes with fondant.

Sundae Cupcakes

Melted down chocolate candy melts for the chocolate topping, added some sprinkles and popped the cherry on top while the topping was still cooling.

Sundae Cupcakes

I think they turned out great.

Sundae Cupcakes

I hope she liked them :)
