EEP! EEP!

I made these guys last week. They took some time to assemble, but overall were pretty easy to make.

Monkey Cupcakes

Fondant covered marble cupcakes. Mini chocolate chips for the eyes and nose. Mint chocolate candy melts for the ears. Candy dots for the dimples. And edible marker to draw on the grins.

I can’t barely wait to find out how they went over!

Happy Birthday, Beth!

Okay, guys, before you read this I want you to go and leave a comment on my last post if you already haven’t, K? Come on, it’ll be fun. And you could win a set of sweet hurricane glasses. Just think… you and three of your pals sipping on frosty strawberry daiquiries… Hurry! Go leave a comment now. I’m picking a winner Friday, August 6th!

So, last week a friend of mine whom I’ve known and worked with for years asked me to make some cupcakes for his special gal. They were going to celebrate her birthday up in Traverse City, home of the cherry festival. Naturally there had to be a cherry in the design somewhere, right? So we talked over some of his ideas and settled on some cute sundae cupcakes complete with a cherry on top.

Sundae Cakes

I made the fondant cherries a few days before and let them set.

Sundae Cupcakes

I covered cherry chip flavored cupcakes with fondant.

Sundae Cupcakes

Melted down chocolate candy melts for the chocolate topping, added some sprinkles and popped the cherry on top while the topping was still cooling.

Sundae Cupcakes

I think they turned out great.

I hope she liked them :)

Whelp. It’s over. They’re gone. The Alice in Wonderland cupcakes/cake were picked up yesterday. The vanilla bean buttercream of the Queen of Hearts cupcake. The tiny fondant Mad Hatter top hats. And the chocolatey grins of the Cheshire Cat. All gone.

Alice in Wonderland Cupcakes

Here’s the Alice cake. Man, she was adorable. A little too curious for her own good, but adorable none the less. With her pretty little fondant flowers and bow. And her baby blue buttercream.

Alice in Wonderland Cake2

Definitely one of my finer achievement thus far. I had so much fun with these Alice in Wonderland cupcakes (and the cake). From the planning to the baking to the decorating–I loved every minute of it. Especially the taste testing ;)

P.S. Thanks to the huz for the awesome photos and a giant high five for the mad child watching skillz.

Say hello to my little friends.

Okay. I know I promised Florida pics, but I have to post about these first.

Kitty Cupcakes

A friend asked me to make kitty cupcakes for his daughter’s birthday. Being the cake… er… cat lover I am, I obliged. They have a gray kitty and an orange kitty so I did six of each color. They turned out darling, don’t you think? Especially this guy. Even though he’s a little cross-eyed. It adds to his charm, no?

Gray Kitty Cupcake

I made the ears, eyes and muzzle the night before. For the eyes, I melted white chocolate and piped ovals onto wax paper. Then, and this is key, I dropped candy dots in place BEFORE the chocolate cooled. The chocolate cools rather quickly, so pipe a few sets of eyes, drop the dots into place and then pipe some more.

Edible Eyes

I used a giant heart sprinkle for each nose, which I “pasted” into place on the fondant muzzle with a tiny dot of buttercream.

Kitty Cupcake

I made the ears out of fondant by folding a semi-circle in half. Then I used an edible art marker to draw on the details. Look at that face… couldn’t you just eat him up?

Fondant Kitty Parts

The next morning I baked the cupcakes, in this case marble. Speaking of marble cake, what is marble cake without chocolate frosting? That’s why I decided to dip the cupcakes in melted chocolate fudge frosting before piping on the buttercream. Major. Win.

Grease Monkey

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I did these cupcakes for a good friend. He likes cars. Old cars. He fixes them up real nice like. To do that, he’s got to know his way around a garage. And what’s more fitting than birthday cupcakes with monkey wrenches and grease?

Greasy Monkey Wrench Cupcake

He’s also an artist. At least three of his paintings grace our home. On top of being a kick ass painter, he’s a talented musician. Has an adorable offspring. And is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. Plus, his wife is totally hot (hi, Jen!).

Love you guys,
K

40th Birthday Cake

Monday, March 15th, 2010

I did this cake/cupcake combo for a co-worker’s friend’s 40th birthday (got that?). It was my first time making my own chocolate marshmallow fondant. The inside was devil’s food cake with super fluffy vanilla buttercream. Sorry about the blurry iPhone photos… I need to take a few lessons from my husband when it comes to photography, apparently!

xoxo,
